I bade farewell to the shirt
that had memories imprinted
with words written by “friends”
who once constituted my universe
In playgrounds, foyers, and storerooms
we made timeless melodies for our sisterhood
but then, I lost my instrument.
I often sit in silence, reminiscing the old days
when we had the time of our lives
We breathe the same air and busk
under the same sun
But with every passing year,
My universe is narrowing from 5 to none
I still hear about them, how they are doing
and I wish them well
for the dreams, they are pursuing
This friendship day,
I write this ode to the lost connections
Probably, our journey was finite
But one day, if I ever cross path with them,
I will stop myself to start again
On a right note.
– A.
The last line hit a chord with me (pun intended, slightly) such a hopeful end that perhaps a new start is possible too.
